The African Doum Palm (Hyphaene thebaica), a deciduous broadleaf tree, originates from Northern and North-Eastern Africa. It thrives in open savannahs, near coasts, and along streams in arid inland areas. Known for its drought and salt resistance, it goes by various African names such as Mkoma, Mkoche (Swahili), Eng'oli (Turkana), and Mlala (Giriama). Also called Gingerbread Palm, this tree is one of the few truly branching palms and can grow in arid areas near deserts if its deep roots can reach sub-surface waters. It is a landmark of Eastern Africa's bushland savannah, where it often appears mixed with flat-top acacias and is heavily browsed by elephants. Revered by early Egyptians, the palm is depicted in their frescoes and seeds have been found in Pharaohs' tombs. Available models include 10-meter, 6-meter, and 4-meter specs.
