Bird bone awl, Sanak Island, Alaska. CAT# XFP-056-1 XFP-056 is a group of large house depressions located on the south shore of Pauloff Harbor, Sanak Island, Alaska. Multiple radiocarbon dates confirm that they were occupied from 300 CE to 800 CE, possibly extending into the 13th century with the uppermost levels. These artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. They were then processed in Geomagic or Polyworks, utilizing 4-8 photos to create textures in ZBrush. The Sanak Island artifacts showcase the results of research conducted under grants NSF 0326584, NSF 0508101, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411, led by H. Maschner as Principal Investigator. Original digitizing work took place at the IVL at Idaho State University, while subsequent processing was completed at Global Digital Heritage. Fieldwork and analysis were conducted with permission from the Pauloff Harbor Tribe and collaboration with the Sanak Corporation.
