Obsidian Biface, Sanak Island, Alaska. CAT# XFP-054-64-2 XFP-054 marks an early settlement on a dune area's south side, Sanak Island, Alaska. The deflating dune leaves behind dozens of well-preserved homes and site features, clearly illustrating the village organization of this time period between 2200 and 1600 BCE. This coincides with the early occupation of Hot Springs Village on the Alaska Peninsula. These artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Processed in Geomagic or Polyworks, 2-8 photos were used for texture in Geomagic Wrap. Sanak Island artifacts result from research conducted under NSF grants 0326584, 0508101, 1139266, and 1321411. H. Maschner leads the investigation as Principal Investigator. Original digitizing work is done at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., with subsequent processing completed at Global Digital Heritage. Fieldwork and analysis are conducted with permission from and collaboration of the Pauloff Harbor Tribe and the Sanak Corporation.
