Sea mammal bone rod or pin, Sanak Island, Alaska. CAT# XFP-052-21. XFP-052 is a prehistoric site on Sanak Island that dates back to 1600-1800 CE. The site has been heavily eroded over time. These artifacts were scanned using either the Faro Edge Arm or the Minolta 9i scanner, and then processed in Geomagic or Polyworks software. A total of 4-8 photos were used for texture rendering in ZBrush. The Sanak Island artifacts are a result of research conducted under grants from the National Science Foundation, NSF 0326584, NSF 0508101, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner led the investigation as Principal Investigator. Original digitization took place at Idaho State University's IVL lab, while subsequent processing was completed by Global Digital Heritage. Fieldwork and analysis were conducted with permission from the Pauloff Harbor Tribe and in collaboration with the Sanak Corporation.
