Izembek Point Base XCB-003-932. XCB-003 or IZM-003 is a site thoroughly examined by A.P. McCartney in 1971. It serves as the type-site for the Izembek Phase. This small village boasts a one-of-a-kind whalebone house and numerous artifacts similar to those found in the Bristol Bay region. The approximate date of this archaeological site is between 1200-1350 CE. The Alaska Peninsula artifacts are presented as direct results of research conducted under NSF grants 9630072, 9814086, 9996372, 9996415, 1139266, and 1321411. H. Maschner led the investigation as Principal Investigator. These artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Processing was completed in Geomagic or Polyworks. Two to eight photos were used for texture in Geomagic Wrap. Original digitizing work took place at the IVL at Idaho State University, while subsequent processing and publication were finalized at Global Digital Heritage. McCartney's findings are documented in APUA 16(1):59-84 (1974), titled Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula. Maschner's research is also published in Arctic Anthro., January 1, 2004 vol. 41 no. 2, pp. 98-111.
