Polished Slate Point Fragment, re-worked. XCB-003-794 XCB-003, or IZM-003, is a site rigorously tested by A.P. McCartney in 1971. It serves as the definitive type-site for the Izembek Phase. The small village boasts an exceptional whalebone house and numerous artifacts closely resembling those found in the Bristol Bay region. Dating approximately 1200-1350 CE, it offers valuable insights into ancient civilizations. The Alaska Peninsula artifacts are presented as a direct result of extensive research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner, the principal investigator, led this groundbreaking project. The artifacts were meticulously scanned using a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Subsequent processing was performed in Geomagic or Polyworks, while 2-8 photos were used to create textured surfaces in Geomagic Wrap. Original digitizing work took place at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., with subsequent processing and publication completed at Global Digital Heritage. McCartney, A.P. published Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula in 1974, which was featured in APUA 16(1):59-84. Maschner's research, doi: 10.1353/arc.2011.0007, was showcased in Arctic Anthro on January 1, 2004, vol. 41 no. 2, 98-111.
