Human: End Blade Base. XCB-003-705. XCB-003, or IZM-003, was thoroughly tested by A.P. McCartney in 1971 at a site that would later become the type-site for the Izembek Phase. Located near a small village with a unique whalebone house and numerous artifacts similar to those found in the Bristol Bay region, XCB-003 dates back approximately 1200-1350 CE. The research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411 led to the presentation of Alaska Peninsula artifacts. H. Maschner served as Principal Investigator for this project. The artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i scanner and then processed in Geomagic or Polyworks software. A minimum of two photos was used for texture in Geomagic Wrap, while the original digitizing work was done at the IVL at Id. St. Univ. Subsequent processing and publication were completed at Global Digital Heritage. A.P. McCartney's research is documented in his 1974 article "Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula" published in APUA 16(1):59-84. Additionally, H. Maschner's work is featured in Arctic Anthro., January 1, 2004 vol. 41 no. 2 98-111 with a DOI of 10.1353/arc.2011.0007.
