Stemmed Polished Slate End Blade XCB-003-667. XCB-003 or IZM-003 was thoroughly investigated by A.P. McCartney in 1971 at a site that is now known as the type-site for the Izembek Phase. This small village boasts an exceptional whalebone house and numerous artifacts, all of which are remarkably similar to those discovered in the Bristol Bay region. Archaeologists estimate that these artifacts date back approximately 1200-1350 CE. The Alaska Peninsula artifacts were carefully researched under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411, with H. Maschner serving as Principal Investigator. High-quality images of these artifacts were captured using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Subsequent processing was performed in Geomagic or Polyworks, utilizing 2-8 photos for texture creation in Geomagic Wrap. The original digitizing work took place at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., with subsequent processing and publication completed at Global Digital Heritage. McCartney's groundbreaking research, "Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula," was published in APUA 16(1):59-84 in 1974. Additionally, Maschner's study, doi: 10.1353/arc.2011.0007, was featured in Arctic Anthro on January 1, 2004, vol. 41 no. 2, pages 98-111.
