Human: Fish Tail Point Base XCB-003-564. Elevated from an earlier level? XCB-003 or IZM-003 is a site extensively tested by A.P. McCartney in 1971. It serves as the type-site for the Izembek Phase. A small village with a distinct whalebone house and numerous artifacts similar to those found in the Bristol Bay region exists at this location. The artifacts date approximately from 1200-1350 CE. The Alaska Peninsula artifacts are presented as a result of thorough research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner is the Principal Investigator for this project. These artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Processing was done in Geomagic or Polyworks. Between 2-8 photos were used for texture in Geomagic Wrap. Original digitizing work was completed at the IVL located within Id. St. Univ. Subsequent processing and publication were finished at Global Digital Heritage. McCartney, A.P., published Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula in 1974. The article appeared in APUA 16(1):59-84. Maschner's research was also published: doi: 10.1353/arc.2011.0007 Arctic Anthro. on January 1, 2004, vol. 41 no. 2, pages 98-111.
