Izembek Point XCB-003-512 or XCB-003 also known as IZM-003 was extensively tested by A.P. McCartney in 1971. This site serves as the definitive type-site for the Izembek Phase. A small village with a unique whalebone house and numerous artifacts similar to those found in the Bristol Bay region is located at this site. The estimated time period for these artifacts ranges from approximately 1200 to 1350 CE. Research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411 led to the presentation of Alaska Peninsula artifacts. H. Maschner served as Principal Investigator for this research. Artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Subsequent processing was done in Geomagic or Polyworks, utilizing 2-8 photos to create texture in Geomagic Wrap. Original digitizing work was completed at the IVL at Idaho State University, with subsequent processing and publication accomplished by Global Digital Heritage. A.P. McCartney's study on prehistoric cultural integration along the Alaska Peninsula was published in APUA 16(1):59-84 in 1974. H. Maschner also conducted a study that was published in Arctic Anthro., January 1, 2004 vol. 41 no. 2, with the DOI 10.1353/arc.2011.0007.
