Xbox 360 Rock Band Drum Head
thingiverse
I wasn't able to find any print files for the Xbox 360 Rock Band drumset heads despite their breaking seeming relatively common. Rather than cannibalizing another set or shelling out $100 plus for a working set (both creating more e-waste), I decided to make a new head so other rhythm game enjoyers can continue to enjoy their games without the excessive cost of the secondary video game market. The V1 is about 95% accurate to the original dimensions of the drum head. I initially printed it with all top layers to make it solid. I found it was almost the right stiffness and "bounce" as the original, but not quite there yet. I suspect PLA may offer better stiffness but it would not be as durable and could crack due to its hardness. The V2 head is beefed up for better stiffness and durability. Tolerances may be tight depending on the printer, so a well-tuned machine is recommended. I printed with the top down to minimize supports. The top surface is largely covered by the rim and rubber pad in the center anyway. Post-processing was pretty straightforward; removed the supports, sand/file any surface defects, and assemble. The heads were designed to use all of the existing hardware with a few minor fitment modifications (cleaning up edges of the extrusion molded parts, etc.).
