Xbox 360 Fan Shroud
thingiverse
A replacement fan shroud for the full-size "phat" variant of the xbox 360 game console. While disassembling my own console, I came to the realization the hard way that the plastic airflow guide inside becomes quite brittle with age. I wasn't overly sentimental the console and hadn't use it frequently prior, but I thought designing a replacement part would be a fun challenge for my CAD skills. I was rather pleased with the results and decided to share the finished product to help out anyone else whom may be in a similar situation. The shroud was modelled as closely to the original part as possible, save for a few changes for the sake of ease of printing, like the omission of the clip that latches into the fan assembly and the inclusion of integrated supports for the standoff on the side of the shroud. The model comes in two variants: 0.8mm wall thickness and 1.2mm wall thickness, along with the source CAD files for each in F3D and STEP formats. The part is designed to be printed with the fan side flat on the bed. In this orientation the only portion of the model which requires support is the large flat created by the pocket for the optical drive. All other parts of the model should be self-supporting.Please note that if you plan on running your console without the enclosure or optical drive installed, you will need to attach a covering across the top of the heat sinks (image shown) to maintain proper airflow, otherwise the processors will overheat under load and potentially lead to permanent damage (The earlier versions of the xbox 360 were especially prone to hardware failures which were caused in part by high operating temperatures).
