Here are fragments from the gable end of the roof of a tomb at Xanthos (now located in Turkey) showcasing two sphinxes and two lions. This limestone relief dates back to Greece's Early Classical period, specifically around 480 BCE, and hails from ancient Lycia. When initially discovered, this stunning sculpture boasted brilliant coloring that featured feathers arranged in rows with red, black, and blue centers and white borders, while the sphinx's hair was a vibrant yellow. Unfortunately, upon display at the British Museum, no remnants of these colors remain. Test using a Nikon D5500:
