X900 Tricopter Motor Mounts
thingiverse
The X900 tricopter frame owner faced a broken motor mount issue after a crash and found that spare parts were unavailable. Instead, they designed their own lightweight motor mounts using 3mm aluminum bar stock from a local hardware store. These CNC'ed mounts are lighter than the original glass fiber ones and can be resized for larger motor sizes. The design process was carried out in CamBam, with geode (.nc) files prepared for a 3mm end mill. The mounts were produced on a converted Sieg X2 mini mill using only a 3mm end mill, with the entire base stock costing approximately AU$7 from Bunnings. The inner section of the motor mount was reduced to 2mm to minimize weight while maintaining a 3mm outer rim for strength. Despite its asymmetrical design, it remains perfectly functional.
