The Tupolev Tu-160, a Soviet-era supersonic bomber designed to destroy enemy targets on the ground and in the air, features an array of deadly armaments as its primary weaponry. These weapons are strategically positioned within the aircraft's design to ensure maximum effectiveness during combat operations. The arsenal includes a range of high-yield nuclear warheads, precision-guided conventional bombs, and radar-guided missiles capable of targeting enemy fighter jets. Each weapon system is engineered to optimize performance and minimize collateral damage. The Tu-160's primary armament consists of up to 12 air-launched Kh-55SM cruise missiles, which can be equipped with high-yield nuclear warheads or conventional high-explosive fragmentation bombs. These missiles employ a state-of-the-art guidance system for pinpoint accuracy and can strike targets at ranges exceeding 3,000 miles. In addition to the Kh-55SM missiles, the Tu-160 is also armed with up to six R-27T (AA-10 Alamo) long-range air-to-air missiles, designed to engage enemy fighter jets at extreme ranges. These missiles utilize semi-active radar homing technology for enhanced accuracy and are equipped with a high-speed seeker for rapid target acquisition. For closer-range engagements, the Tu-160 is also fitted with up to 12 R-60 (AA-8 Aphid) short-range air-to-air missiles, which employ infrared homing technology for effective targeting of enemy aircraft. These missiles are designed to be used in conjunction with the aircraft's onboard radar system for optimal results. The Tupolev Tu-160 is a formidable bomber capable of unleashing devastating firepower on enemy targets, making it an essential component of Soviet and Russian airpower doctrine.
