x2 / harbor frieght mini mill cnc stepper covers and fan cover
thingiverse
When enclosing a mini mill with flood coolant, you need a way to protect the steppers from water pouring all over them. A great solution is this stepper cover for NEMA 23 steppers, designed specifically around the Fusion CNC kit for the X2 or Harbor Freight mini mill. I've also included a file for the electronics fan cover, which prevents water from entering when using mist or excessive water slinging. The factory design leaves the fan open, but you can easily install this cover with the opening facing towards the back of the enclosure. To use these stepper covers, you'll need to drill and tap the motor mounts to secure them in place. M3 or M4 screws work well for this purpose. Additionally, apply a sealant where the X and Y covers are bolted to prevent water from seeping under them. The Z motor cover doesn't require any sealant and simply slides over the stepper for a snug fit without rattling. An extrusion was designed into this cover to allow wires to pass through – just line up the wires in the notch and slide it down onto the motor. I hope you find these covers useful!
