X-Wing Ornament
thingiverse
This is mainly a scaled version of the stunning X-Wing model created by ToolBox3D at Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1212999). I simply scaled it down to the size I needed and added a loop on top. The other quasi source I pulled from was the outstanding Tie Interceptor ornament created by Goubeauxr (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1955227). Nothing was taken from this model, but I wanted to make its partner in crime. I printed my Tie Interceptor at 100 mm in length (about). I wanted the X-Wing to be correctly scaled when compared to the Tie Interceptor. They'd look ridiculous chasing each other around the Christmas tree if they were disproportionate. According to Google, the length of each ship is as follows: Tie Interceptor: 31 feet (9.6 meters) X-Wing: 41 feet (12.5 meters) I printed my Tie Interceptor with a length of 100 mm. The X-Wing is supposed to be about 133% the length of the Interceptor, or about one-third longer. I scaled these models so that, when combined and facing forward, they ended up being about 132 mm long. Please keep in mind that I have this queued up as my next print but haven't actually made it yet. I'm matching it to the same settings I used for the Tie Interceptor. Once it's all printed, I'll post a picture. P.S.: I threw in my factory file in case anyone else is a Simplify3D fan and wants to print in Hatchbox Wood PLA. Please keep in mind that it's for Wood PLA only. You wouldn't need this sort of retraction/lift/etc with regular PLA. Update #1: I added an STL and factory file for those who want to print this as one single piece. This is how I'm opting to print it. Update #2: I went a little further and added a supported version I created using MeshMixer. I recommend trying this one first if you have a large enough print bed. Mine is almost done printing, but from what I can see via OctoPrint, it's worked wonderfully. Sidenote: I'm thrilled by how much people seem to be enjoying this model. I just want to stress again that I'm just plagiarizing someone else's amazing modeling work : )
