This is the oxygen mask "butterfly connector" receiver from an APH-6B helmet, minus the part that connects the mask as it's unnecessary and already filled in. The rounded edge faces towards the back of the helmet while the straight edge points towards the front. This design aims to enhance accuracy for http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:813532, the second revision .stl file featuring holes for rivets that may not print properly. These holes allow you to drill them out precisely or simply leave them since some TIE helmets I've seen have had their rivets drilled out.
