The X'Trapolis Modular is a single-floor electric railcar model. It is part of the X'Trapolis family of suburban trains of the French company Alstom. It is currently used by EFE Central and EFE Valparaíso, both subsidiaries of Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE) of Chile. In total there are 30 trains consisting of 2 cars each, of which 22 operate on the Tren Nos-Estación Central and 8 on the Tren Limache-Puerto. As part of the Rancagua Express project of Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado for its subsidiary Tren Central, an international public tender was held. Alstom, CAF and Talgo participated in this tender, which was held in 2012.1 In October 2012, it became known that Alstom had been awarded the contract to manufacture these trains for EFE. To this end, it would build 12 new X'Trapolis Modular model convoys at a cost of USD 68 million.1 These would be built at the plant in Santa Perpetua de Moguda, Barcelona, at a rate of one train per month. After the construction of two trains, they are sent to the port of Bilbao, in the Basque Country, to be shipped to San Antonio in Chile.2
