Cyclops wears a visored mask to prevent random discharge, lined with powdered ruby-quartz crystal. The mask incorporates two longitudinally mounted flat lenses that can lever inward, providing a constantly variable exit slot ranging from 0 inches to .79 inches in height and a constant width of 5.7 inches. An inverted clamshell mechanism operates through a twin system of miniature electrical motors. As an added safety feature, springs provide a constant positive closing pressure. The mask itself is crafted from high-impact cycolac plastic. Finger-operated control mechanisms override normal operation on either side of the mask, and a flat micro-switch at the base of each glove thumb handles normal function.
