X-Maxx two piece gear cover ====================== I wanted a two piece cover so you don't have to disassemble anything. I also want to use the original gear cover mounting holes because I don't think mounting this with one of the bulk head screws is the best choice. I used X-Maxx gear cover (corrected version)" by Shrimp76 as a visual reference. I'm using the WFO motor mount and their 23t pinion / 35t spur 1.5mod gear combo. There should be enough space to use a 25t - 27t pinion (maybe larger, idk...) and still have access to the inside mounting screw. Up to 30t gears should definitely fit though just might not be able to get a long t-handle hex key past the gear to use the original gear cover mounting screw hole. This mounts in the same two holes as the original gear cover. The hole at the top is so you can access the mounting screw inside the cover, you could also use it to lube the gears. I could have made a fancy plug for it but a piece of duct tape will work just fine to cover the hole. In one of the pictures I highlighted a screw area. This is not necessarily a mounting point, it could be used as one but its there for connecting the two pieces together. If you want to use that as a mounting place it should line up with the upper bulkhead screw. You will need to drill it out and use a longer M4 button head machine screw. The Traxxas plastic sucks when it comes to screws so the less you remove them the better, this is why I didn't want to use this bulk head screw to mount the cover. I suppose putting some of those brass thread inserts would be good or using coarser threaded screws would solve this if you need to remove the cover often.
