QIDI has upgraded their X-Max carriage design in an effort to significantly improve part cooling functionality. The new design features a hole drilled into the bottom of the carriage, accompanied by threaded inserts, and a fan duct directly attached to the blower fan. This updated approach aims to correct the unbalanced and misdirected air flow that was previously characteristic of the standard design's channels built into the carriage. As a result, the airflow is now more consistent across various model geometries. The new X-Max version offers an ideal location for attaching custom fan ducts without requiring any modifications. However, users with older models will need to contact QIDI support in order to receive the updated part. This project serves as a starting point for user modifications and involves uploading DXF drawings of the carriage underside and a duct adapter model. Although I have not had the opportunity to test this model due to my printer being packed away at present, I was able to take precise measurements with the Qidi part in hand. When utilizing these designs, users are advised to plan around the bottom of the carriage and aim correctly towards the nozzle. Keep in mind that the heater block is not included in this design, so it's essential to consider the heat emanating from it. The maximum depth from the bottom of the carriage should be maintained at or below 5.5mm, with a suggested limit of 5mm to prevent potential part collisions. Personally, I would like to see an air flow system that directs cooling air around the entire part rather than just one side. Hopefully, this starting point will prove helpful for members of the X-Max user community. Changelog: v4 - Added outer fillets and set wall thickness back to 2.3mm v3 - Simplified base and reduced wall thickness. Adjusted fillets to remove the need for gap filling v2 - Added fillets, adjusted dimensions after first test print v1 - Initial upload, quick model
