Recently, I came across the 8163 Xfollower design which piqued my interest. To improve upon it, I created a replacement for the "idler" side plywood on the X carriage using two ball bearings (outer diameter 8mm, width 4mm, inner diameter 3mm). This modification involves removing the bronze bushings and is reversible since you can revert to the original setup if needed. The design is highly parametric in SCAD format, allowing for customization according to your requirements. Post-installation, it may be necessary to re-shim the build platform using the calibration script provided. Unfortunately, I haven't conducted extensive performance tests for this modification, but I hope others will do so. Lastly, version 2 of this design restricts the lower cone to a 9mm space between the axle and Y carriage top while also adjusting the axle position by 0.5mm for better bushing alignment. This modification aims to prevent skid marks and noise, but remember to calibrate the Z-axis as well!
