X-Carriage et al for FLSun i3 (2017 edition)
thingiverse
This carriage and components were designed to work with the FLSun i3 2017 edition printer, but may be compatible with other units as well. I wanted a new X-Carriage because my original acrylic unit warped after just a few months of use. Since printing this in PLA seems to be holding up fine for now, I plan to print it all in ABS eventually. This package includes several features that you might find interesting: 1) The X-Carriage has a standard cable chain mount to attach an X-Chain. The link STL files included here are not my design; instead, I used the widely accepted ones made by ModelStation, which can be found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:11978. 2) The rear holes on the carriage are larger than the bolts that come with the i3 unit, allowing for adjustable tightness of the wheels against the 2020 extrusion. I've included an eccentric nut for printing, which inserts into these larger holes to snug the wheels to the X rail. You'll need two longer-than-stock M5 bolts (30mm) for this. 3) The Commode parts cooler fits on the front and comes in two flavors: one with LED mounts for lighting up the parts area if you're using a camera for time-lapse, or the no-LED version if that's not your preference. 4) I designed an X end-stop spacer so you don't need to use two 4mm T-nuts as instructed. This saves space and makes assembly easier. 5) Print two hot end clips (HotEndClip.stl), which surround the hot end mounting slot at the top to hold it in place instead of using the aluminum strip that comes with the kit. You'll need three M3 bolts (12mm long) for this. 6) The BLTouchMountWithCableGuide.stl and RadialFanMount.stl files are designed to be fully adjustable and mount to the X-Carriage. 7) ZMount.stl is a chain clip that mounts to the 2020 extrusion on the right side of the printer. 8) X_fixed_end.stl is a part I got from Thingiverse, but unfortunately, I didn't note down the original author. If they happen to stumble upon this thing, please let me know so I can give them credit and update it accordingly. This part joins the X chain to the Z chain and mounts to the Z plate on the right side of the printer. What you'll need: - 3 M5 bolts (30mm long) for the X carriage eccentric and one for the X to Z chain mount on the Z bracket - 2 M3 bolts (10mm long) for the RadialFanMount to X-carriage - 4 M3 bolts (12mm long) - 3 M3 bolts (16mm long) for the BLTouch mount and two for the Commode parts cooler to RadialFanMount Do not print Asselbled.stl, as it's just an STL of most of the parts fit together so you can see in 3D how they all fit together. Print one of everything except Eccentric.stl and HotEndClip.stl. You'll need two of these parts. Of course, if you're using chain links, be sure to print many of them, as I use 23 on the X axis and 29 on the Z. UPDATE: August 29, 2017 I added two more parts cooler options called SimpleWithLEDs.stl and SimpleNoLEDs.stl. I prefer this design because it doesn't surround the hot end and requires precise positioning. It also moves a lot more air across the part.
