X Belt Tension System for Max Micron (and some other Prusa i3)

Summary: Currently in progress!! August 3rd, 2016 - Added edited adjuster that accepts 20-tooth idler bearings. This Z-axis carriage design is for Max Micron and Prusa i3 printers with the lead screw and rod offset from the X-axis rods. I've included images with dimensions so you can verify compatibility with your printer (the Hictop and some others use a similar layout). A template to determine fit may be designed and uploaded, but for now, measuring is necessary. My current printer has X-rod extensions of 20-25mm beyond the carriage. Some printers won't require this length, so modifications will be needed for proper function. I aim to design a version for flush rods soon. Many existing X-belt tensioning Z carriages have the lead screw and stabilization rod in line with the X-rods, requiring a complete rebuild of both top and bottom assemblies on both sides for alignment. This design is easier and faster if you already have this printer setup. The three parts are: • The Z Carriage • The Adjuster Bar • The End Cap You'll need to add one M4 nut and 25-30mm flat-head screw. I strongly recommend using at least a 1.6 to 2.0 shell (with a 0.4 nozzle) for proper strength. Print these parts with a resolution of 0.1 or better, as the fit is tight. You may need to sand/file a little to achieve smooth movement. Do not over-tighten; if you stress the belt too much, it will break the tensioner to prevent damage to your printer. Print Settings: • Rafts: No • Supports: Yes • Resolution: 0.1 • Infill: 25% • Notes: I strongly recommend using at least a 1.6 to 2.0 shell (with a 0.4 nozzle) for proper strength. Also, print at 0.1 or better to achieve smooth movement.
