I created an upgraded X-axis tensioner for my Anet A8 printer using FreeCAD (blueprint attached). It provides a snugger fit, allowing me to utilize a 16-tooth idler bearing with an M3 screw. To install the tensioner, I need two M4 screws and nuts, which fit perfectly into the pre-drilled holes. For the bearing itself, a single M3 screw and nut are required. Tensioning is straightforward: simply adjust the screws inward or outward to achieve the desired level of tightness. This improved design distributes stress more evenly, as it loads only the metal bars – not the leadscrew or linear guide – making it a significant upgrade from the original setup. Additionally, I need to swap in a longer belt to complete the modification.
