Updated 2-24-2020 (details at bottom of summary) I'd love to see more makes, so please post a make if you do decide to go through with this. DISCLAIMER: My printer has been heavily modified, and as such, there may be things that won't work on a stock CR-10 or Tevo Tornado. Please plan ahead and ensure you cover all your bases before starting this mod. This modification is likely not suitable for those new to 3D printing. This set is designed to replace the X and Z axis with linear rails. I completed this modification on a CR-10, but it should be adaptable to many 2020-based cartesian printers with the right rail length. Requires: 1 x 400mm rail with an MGN12H carriage 2 x 500mm rails with MGN12C carriages (or 2 x 500mm rails with MGN12H carriages) 2 x Delrin Anti-Backlash Silent Nuts for 8mm T8x8 Lead Screw Trapezoidal ACME Link to manufacturer webpage: http://www.zyltech.com/delrin-anti-backlash-for-8mm-lead-screw-trapezoidal-acme-t8x8-or-t8x2/ (Alternatively, use the adapter "Lead Screw POM Nut Adapter v1.1.stl," although it has not been tested.) Many M3 and M4 screws and nuts are also required. The carriage is modular but features an adapter for a Titan Aero. It should be easy to attach other components since it's held together by just six screws. You can view more pictures of this setup at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3172348. I want to reiterate that I cannot guarantee everything will work on your CR-10 or Tevo Tornado, as my printer has been heavily modified. For example, you'll need to figure out endstops on your own, as I'm using a Duet Wifi for sensor-less homing. There may be several other things you'll need to troubleshoot, but I wanted to share all the work I've done. The idler mount to idler clearance is quite tight. I recommend using sandpaper to smooth it out until it slides smoothly and doesn't get stuck. [UPDATE] I have created a purpose-built idler/tensioner specifically for this setup. [UPDATE2] I added "LeftX-1.31.stl" with a properly sized recess for the stepper collar to fit into. [UPDATE3] I added a brace/guard around the front left on the X axis, as well as some additional renders. [UPDATE4] I added an option to use MGN12H for the Z direction instead of MGN12C. [UPDATE5] I added "Lead Screw bearing cap.stl," which was difficult to print in PETG as one piece. This version prevents the lead-screw and bearing from rattling around while printing. [UPDATE6] I added POM nut adapters, 18mm hole spacing, and 16mm hole spacing, allowing you to skip buying the ones listed earlier. [UPDATE7] I added "x-idler v1.1.stl," which fixes some tight clearance issues. [UPDATE8] I added step files per request (although they may be outdated compared to some of the updated parts). [UPDATE9] I added a compact X carriage that I specifically needed for an aluminum mount on my Titan Aero. The compact mount is a rough design, but it works. Aluminum mount: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32956517811.html [UPDATE10] I added an optional pillow block mount for the Z lead screws. Unfortunately, with the current design, you will probably only be able to use this on top and not both sides of the screw. STL name: Pillow_Block_Z-Idler_v1.stl Link for pillow block: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32923177043.html (option: KFL08-8MM) Requires some M5 screws, nuts, and T-nuts.
