X-ACTO Knife Handle and Locking Cap
thingiverse
V4 "Shorty" going live due to popular demand. This design prioritizes compactness (total length of 126mm while stowed. The rear retention has been improved with a medium-hard detent - keeps the cap secure while much less sensitive to printer inaccuracy. The longer version will get this too eventually. In addition, 2 variants have been added in an attempt to accommodate different blade holes - the "-0.5mm" and "+0.5mm" shimmies the hole forward and aft, respectively. The V4 is arguably a bit less forgiving to use, since you have less of a handle to hold onto while capping/uncapping, so be careful not to poke yourself. ------------- "That's not a knoife, THIS is a knoife!" ===================== Like many other red-blooded humans, I have been reminded of my blood color by an Xacto knife that unexpectedly disassembled while in my bag. NO MORE! I present to you: the nicest Xacto knife you've ever used, or your money back*. ------------------------------------- This design is meant to solve the faults with the standard design: 1. The standard cap is a friction-fit device when protecting the blade. Boo. Comes apart all the time, leaving your blade exposed and the whole locker room laughing at you, how embarrassing. 2. The cap is easily lost since there's no place to put it while working. 3. The standard #11 blade is upswept on the cutting edge and parallel with the handle on the back edge. This is very annoying if you want to spin the knife to expand a hole. Instead, the blade triangle should be centered. This gentle sweep angle retains cutting stability while being much easier to drill with. *this is free. ------------
