WW2 RAM Kangaroo APC 28mm
thingiverse
This is a 28mm scale model of the WW2 Canadian RAM Kangaroo APC. The source of the RAM was a 1/200 model from m_bergman's great treasure, which provided the foundation for this impressive model. The separate track is sourced from dougzmodels' excellent 1/72nd scale M-3 Lee, expertly modified to fit seamlessly onto the RAM hull. The RAM tank was a medium tank designed and built in Canada during the challenging years of 1941-1942. As the British faced numerous challenges and the Americans were ramping up their war efforts, Canada took the bold step of developing its own tank, the RAM. Its suspension was modeled after the M-3 Lee suspension, but its hull allowed for a fully rotating turret, initially equipped with a powerful 2-pounder gun and later upgraded to a 6-pounder ATG. Early models also featured a small MG turret on the left front hull. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ram_tank The Canadians shipped these tanks to equip their troops in the UK, but just prior to the invasion of France, Canadian soldiers switched out from their RAMs to the standard allied M4 Sherman. As the liberation of Europe progressed, the heavy casualties suffered by infantry units sparked an initiative to repurpose the surplus RAM tanks as APCs. Many were converted and used by both the Canadian and British armies until the end of the war in Europe. This model began with the 1/200th scale model of the RAM kangaroo from the Bergman files, which provided a solid base for this impressive build. I cut off the tracks to allow for a cleaner print of the hull, then carefully attached them using two-part plastic epoxy, taking care to match the historical accuracy of the track placement. The tracks themselves were sourced from Dougzmodels and expertly modified to fit snugly onto the RAM's front mudguards. **Please refer to the photo where gluing the tracks on for a detailed view of this process. Note that there is a slightly higher gap between the hull and the track at the rear than at the front, as evident in historical photos. To achieve this effect, I used a bit of wood match to create the gap at the back, while using a thinner piece of scrap at the front.** The Kangaroo is listed in the British army book, making it an authentic addition to any collection. **I have provided two files for the MG turret: one featuring a gun and a second without, allowing you to choose your preferred option and use a piece of metal instead if desired.**
