WSU SWB-10
sketchfab
This sample was gathered from a basic cinder cone located west of the Island Park Caldera in southeastern Idaho. The basalt consists of oxidized vesicular groundmass with large subhedral crystals of bytownite An70-90 plagioclase. The rest of the sample makes up a partially melted xenolith that appears to be derived from crustal rocks at depth, which originated from metaplutonic igneous sources. Most of the dark glassy material is simply glassy remains of partial melting within individual grains.
