WSU Sample Y-10
sketchfab
The origin of this specimen remains a mystery. Initially examined in hand, the sample appears to lack significant potassium feldspar content, but a closer look at its composition reveals substantial K-spar presence, potentially misleading the initial assessment. The presence of grayish quartz and whitish plagioclase is notable, as well as possible K-spar deposits. Hornblende stands out as the dominant mafic mineral, with platy biotite also visible. Tonalite classification seems plausible, but a more precise identification as quartz diorite cannot be ruled out. Alternatively, if the K-spar content matches visual representation, this sample might actually be classified as a quartz monzodiorite or granodiorite.
