During less complex periods, the modern desk was rare. Correspondence, documents, and records were limited and typically stored in a container. In the mid-19th century, the need for a dedicated table for the box led to the creation of the writing desk, which merged the table and box. This particular piece is a Country Hepplewhite-style desk from the mid-1800s.
