WriteShootEditRepeat Test thing...
thingiverse
This is my maiden voyage into crafting 3D printable text. It's based on the inspiring motto of Ryan Connolly, the unstoppable Podcaster/Independent Film Maker who never ceases to remind filmmakers to Write, Shoot, Edit Repeat... If you aren't already familiar with him or his electrifying show Film Riot, do yourself a favor and get in on the action! Visit them online at:https://www.youtube.com/user/filmriot Update #1: 8/10/14 - I finally landed my first test print. Unfortunately, Model clearly needs a major overhaul :(\nIt's time for me to figure out how to perfectly position the design flat on its base since it isn't even close to being completely horizontal so I'm counting on rafts to get it level...Also, I notice the letters E, A, and the bottom of the R could use some extra breathing room to look just right. I'll do my best to rectify this and make necessary adjustments. Update #2: 8/17/14 - Time for a complete facelift! I swapped out the fonts to tie in with the movie theme. Here's the new lineup: Write - Jurassic Park Shoot - Back to the Future Edit - The Goonies Repeat - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Plus, I made the cube at the bottom completely flush with the words so it shouldn't require any more support material if you print on the reverse side... Now I'm starting another test run right now, and as soon as I've got the results, you can bet I'll be posting updates and pics. Update #3: 8/17/14 - The test print was a disaster Printing without rafts/supports clearly wasn't a wise decision, since it looks like I forgot to check whether my cube design matched up perfectly with the words... Forced to call a timeout on that attempt due to technical difficulties Have restarted the printer this time around with rafts and supports and things are looking much better! It's only been 1 hour in with an additional 2:55 minutes to go, so I'll update as soon as it's complete. Update #4 9/1/14 - And it paid off. The second test run was a huge success.\nPrinting the whole shebang using rafts and supports resulted in far fewer issues\nBut I have one nagging goal that still remains on my to-do list: Get everything flush so it can be printed with support, freeing up more possibilities. It might take some doing – or at least another couple weeks - before mastering Photoshop in three-dimensional modeling; If the puzzle gets figured out and there's progress along these lines then don't be surprised when I pop back on here saying "look: it can now work with NO SUPPORTS."
