The USS Baldwin DD-624 was a WWII US destroyer that met its fate after running aground off the coast of Rhode Island in 1962. According to Wikipedia, this historic event led to the scuttling of the vessel. In 2019, NOAA's Technology Exploration Cruise included an expedition to explore the wreck site. The image provided is a scan of the starboard flybridge on the USS Baldwin, revealing the open bridge door and showcasing how the wreck has become a haven for marine life, including fish and other creatures seeking shelter. Fishing gear is strewn about the wreck in abundance. A height map in the Y direction is represented by colorization of the point-cloud. This incredible exploration was made possible through the collaboration of NOAA Ocean Exploration Research, the Global Foundation of Ocean Exploration, and the crew of the Okeanos Explorer.
