Wreck of the USS Baldwin The WWII US destroyer, USS Baldwin DD-624, met its end off Rhode Island's coast in 1962 after running aground (Source: Wikipedia). Investigating the wreck was a key component of NOAA's 2019 Technology Exploration Cruise. This scan captures the starboard flybridge of the USS Baldwin. The bridge door lies open, while marine life finds shelter within the wreck. Fishing gear is stuck all over its surface. Colorization is based on laser remission, with a warm brown to yellow hue map used for visual effect. Thanks to NOAA Ocean Exploration Research and their partners at the Global Foundation of Ocean Exploration, as well as the crew of the Okeanos Explorer.
