Wreck USS Baldwin Forward Port AA Gun
sketchfab
Wreck of the USS Baldwin The WWII US destroyer USS Baldwin DD-624 ran aground near Rhode Island, USA, and was intentionally sunk in 1962 (Wikipedia). Participating in the exploration of the wreck was a key component of NOAA's 2019 Technology Exploration Cruise. The scan displays the port forward single 44mm anti-aircraft gun base. The muzzle and breech were removed before scuttling the Baldwin, as shown by the scan. This scan is the manual fusion of multiple scans taken during the expedition. Colorization of the point-cloud uses a hue map based on laser remission, transitioning from brown to yellow. The fish are colored in shades ranging from blue to green for artistic purposes only. Gratitude goes out to NOAA Ocean Exploration Research, the Global Foundation of Ocean Exploration and the crew of the Okeanos Explorer.
