Wreck USS Baldwin Bow Topview
sketchfab
The USS Baldwin DD-624 was a WWII US destroyer that met its fate by running aground near Rhode Island in 1962. The remnants were later scuttled, marking the end of an era for this warship. A top-down scan of the bow section reveals a striking image, with a meshed point cloud adding depth and texture to the scene. Colorization brings out the height of the deck, creating a sense of realism. As part of the NOAA 2019 Technology Exploration Cruise, the wreck was explored in detail. Special thanks are due to NOAA Ocean Exploration Research, the Global Foundation of Ocean Exploration, and the dedicated crew of the Okeanos Explorer for making this discovery possible.
