Wreck Fpl. 63 - Ship Barrier, Bay of Greifswald
sketchfab
In the summer of 2017, the Cultural Heritage Agency of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern expertly excavated, meticulously recorded, and carefully removed two shipwrecks in the Bay of Greifswald, Northern Germany, ahead of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline construction. This 3D model illustrates the scans from various excavation phases of wreck Fpl. 63 (see wreck Fpl. 64). The clinker-built trading vessel was seized and deliberately sunk by Swedish forces in the summer of 1715, along with at least a dozen other vessels, to create a ship barrier at the Bay of Greifswald's entrance, warding off enemy navies during the Great Northern War. Their strategy proved effective until a Swedish deserter guided the Danish navy through a secret passage in the barrier; by December 1715, the region was firmly under Danish control. - image source Photogrammetry models were captured by Paweł Stencel and Thomas Van Damme, with processing handled by Thomas Van Damme.
