Wrap image on curved surface for OpenSCAD
cults3d
Python script reads grey-scale PNG image and generates OpenSCAD source file, embossing the image onto/etching it into a curved solid object. The surface can be any fragment of a conic (including cylindrical) shape or any other mathematically defined surface. This script builds upon Philipp Tiefenbacher's original code, simplified due to OpenSCAD's updated ability to generate polyhedron faces with more than three points. By leveraging this feature, the approach has been generalized from cylinders to any 3D surface that can be defined by the equation z = f(x, y). OpenSCAD version 2015.03 or newer is required to generate STL files.
