wpl 5th wheel
thingiverse
I remixed this awesome 5th wheel to fit the WPL/Heng Long trucks perfectly. I beefed it up internally, added a bigger pivot point, and included a drop-in fit crossmember to replace the stock crossmember and eliminate the rear bumper. I'll add a new bumper later. I printed two from PETG, cleaned them, did some light sanding on the moving parts, added a few drops of oil, and it works smoothly now. The handle/latch spring is trimmed from a Bic lighter flint spring, and for the trigger, I use a cheap lead pen spring trimmed to about 8 mm. I used a screw from a 9g servo case to keep the latch spring in place. The trigger has little dowels to keep it secure. I used leftover WPL diff screws for the trunnion pivot. The king pin is reshaped for a 3mm king pin/bolt diameter. Drill your own holes to mount the 5th wheel to the crossmember, or edit and add them as needed. The locks and latches work perfectly; I can even insert a pin and hang my WPL from it...it's tough in PETG! I thank the designer for this model that I modified and fine-tuned. I'll add tweaks as needed. This one is scaled from the original at 55% with the handle on the driver's side. Thanks. Still trying to figure out how to add individual files for printing. (EDIT) Individual files added. The original can be found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2611637 And pics of it installed on a WPL can be found here, page 4: http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1061537#post1061537 If you build one, please comment on your thoughts and improvements.
