worm + gear + reinforced with metal screw
thingiverse
To overcome fragility issues with a small worm gear when printed horizontally or vertically, I devised a solution by designing a hole in the screw for adding a metal 2-1/2" 8-32 bolt. For optimal printing, set the speed at half the usual rate and fill everything at 100%. Employ concentric filling patterns without support material. Before inserting the bolt, drill a hole and secure it with plumber's glue for added strength. Once dry, attach the worm screw to a drill and smooth its surface using folded sandpaper. Assemble the gear and worm, and apply glue to the worm stopper. Customize fittings as needed and use bearing grease to prevent overheating and melting.
