Gear Worm is the common name of a machine element that resembles an inchworm. The primary application for gears is to provide smooth movement or precision when the drive speed has to change due to changes in torque load conditions. This design results from the meshing of a set of external-toothed wheel segments called gears and has teeth formed specifically as gear-worm shapes which reduce tooth friction when two parts engage one another without direct force against their teeth surfaces. The use allows less vibration when operating at higher speed levels, since only minor resistance acts between components when there isn't full engagement required within an axis' central rotation radius - giving much lower chances for misaligned forces creating undesirable effects on performance!
