Initially, these shells arrived at the front lines in organized fashion, catering to a wide range of shapes and sizes to fit any given cannon, but as the war dragged on and demand for explosive ordnance skyrocketed, a simple yet highly effective design began to dominate the battlefield, holding its own charge with minimal external markings aside from what soldiers themselves adorned it with for personal use.
