Working Compensator for Ruger American Pistol
thingiverse
After over two years of development, 15 prototypes, and countless refinements, I proudly present a working pistol compensator that can be printed on standard FFF/FDM 3D printers and (likely) withstand the first shot without disintegrating. Not only does it significantly reduce muzzle rise and recoil for more accurate shots, but its rugged design also looks intimidating and produces an ear-splitting noise, making it a blast to use on the shooting range. So far, I've fired 150 rounds through it with no issues, apart from the target and my eardrums taking a beating. **A Brief Overview of the Development Process** The biggest challenge with all previous prototypes was that gases escaping the barrel would cause printed layers to separate after just a few shots. After repeatedly reinforcing weak areas, I decided to take a different approach: removing the first "notch." You can't break something if it's not there in the first place, right? Another significant improvement was adding a cavity inside the compensator, allowing gases to expand freely without blasting onto printed parts. The cavity also connects with the last notch, directing gases upwards with maximum leverage and hopefully reducing muzzle rise even further. The part that holds the pic rail under the pistol is reinforced and fits snugly on the pistol's rail. The "wings" above it help transfer forces from the compensator to the rail, which sit in recessed areas of the slide so they don't protrude too much. Of course, there's also a pic rail under the entire compensator because why not? Once you go tacticool, you might as well go all out. I provide the 123D Design file for your convenience, allowing you to remake it for other pistol models. Just be sure to check barrel alignment and clearance of parts sliding on the pistol. Feel free to ask any questions, remix, or post makes. I'm curious to see if anyone can make it strong enough to survive regular use.
