The Black Five, a renowned class of 4-6-0 steam locomotives, was designed by William Stanier in 1934. Between then and 1951, an impressive 842 members of this class were constructed. Several Black Fives continued to operate until the final day of steam on British Railways in 1968, while eighteen examples have been preserved for future generations to admire.
