Word Cubes

Word Cubes

thingiverse

I created these word cubes specifically for use in my kindergarten class to help students practice decoding CVC words. Each cube prints as one complete piece, without any need for assembly, but allows the central section to rotate freely. This design results in 16 different actual and made-up words being produced, all of which can be decoded using basic phonics principles (i.e., all stops and no fricatives like "soft" C or G in the initial position). In addition to these word cubes, I've also included a worksheet for students to record their words and then write a sentence that includes at least one of the recorded words. Note: Although I normally cringe when kindergarten activities are done entirely in uppercase letters, since all-caps is what's available by default on Tinkercad, I opted for it and simply ask my students to write in lower case when doing this activity.
