WOPR from War Games
thingiverse
I'm thrilled about WarGames, a film I hold in high esteem. The prospect of modeling the WOPR has long fascinated me, yet never found time for it. Over the weekend, I came across BrianEnigma's exceptional model and Chris25b's revised version, which caught my attention. After printing them out, I decided to fine-tune the proportions that were slightly off. STL files can be quite challenging to edit, so I opted to start from scratch. I drew upon some dimensions from the 105% WOPR Arduino case as a point of departure and built upon those. This version is hollow, allowing users to customize its interior with whatever they desire. In my opinion, this is currently the most accurate 3D model of the WOPR available. The print turned out beautifully, and I'm confident you'll enjoy it. Special thanks are due to BrianEnigma; stumbling upon his work was instrumental in kick-starting this project. Would you care for a game of chess? UPDATE: To take the model further, I integrated an Arduino inside with an LED board on top, creating an attractive visual effect courtesy of the flashing lights – albeit a tad tricky to capture in photos unfortunately. You can find the corresponding video here: https://youtu.be/8mKnKyFPGVc My wife now proudly displays my original WOPR on her desk at work, prompting me to construct another using the updated r3 file. This one boasts a blue LOL shield within its hollow core instead of the traditional red. Feel free to check it out here: https://youtu.be/iqw4kuKQveo UPDATE: The r3 update is minor, encompassing small tweaks that may not be readily apparent on lower-resolution printers. I've had positive results with these updates when printing at 100% scale with a 0.35mm nozzle using a MakerGear M2. Here's what you can expect: - Slight adjustments to front latch positions - Refining the groove around the small bolted hatch in front - Introducing a mouse hole on the rear for wire routing - Tweaking the hole pattern on the tall console above 'WOPR' to enhance accuracy - Adding a trim groove around the main LED panel - Installing screw heads to the rear air vent
