Woodworking Large Gouge and Lathe Tool Sharpener Jig
thingiverse
I wanted to give a quick remix of dhg864's "Sharpen Tools for Wood Turning" remix, so I remodeled Sharpjig2.stl to fit wider gouges and lathe tools. The new file is called Sharpjig2_wide.stl. I also remade Sharpjig3.stl and took out more material from the front to keep it from hitting the grinding wheel. The foot, Sharpjig4.stl, still sticks out a bit in the front, but I didn't want to change its structure. The author suggested using M5 screws, but I used M3's instead because that's all I had on hand. They worked fine for the bottom knob as long as you scale down the small knob (I think Sharpjig6a) to fit an M3 nut. To get it to fit the top, I used a longer screw I found in my garage. My print looks rough because I added extra PLA to weld the seams and make it stronger. The original design is great, and it saved me at least $48 by printing it myself. I've tested the original, but it needed a Forstner bit to widen the hole. This remix with the redesigned parts hasn't been tested yet, but I don't see how much of a difference it would make.
