Having access to a CNC sparks creativity in many ways. Working on my Doll High Chair with wedged mortise joints made me think it'd be awesome to give clients a mallet with the chair to assemble, just like getting a hex key from IKEA every time you buy something. Therefore, the mallet should be as simple to build as possible. My first attempt gets very close to this goal. Cutting four parts from 10mm material, gluing them up, and you're good to go. A little roundover with the hand router improves the handle significantly and doesn't take much time. I made a second version to take care of the classic interpretation using different wood. A high-quality wooden mallet should have an ash-tree handle and a white beech head. Lacking those materials, I chose oak for the handle and acacia tree for the head. I haven't tried printing the parts as I don't have an FDM printer. Furthermore, I'd be worried about the strength (and weight) of a printed mallet.
