Wooden skewers plane
thingiverse
Something my boys and their friends had some fun with for several hours over days, constantly optimizing and changing things, learning about center of gravity, lightweight construction, and more. They even discovered that the fin was far too heavy and too thick! To build these planes, just 3D print the parts and use wooden skewers to connect them - those 3mm BBQ sticks are larger in diameter than toothpicks. Cover the wings with light paper, adjust the center of gravity by tweaking different levers for the tail and nose, and add some coins. Three coin holder variations are included. These planes will barely fly better than a paper plane but if everything is done right and well adjusted, they'll glide along and follow a linear path. So, nothing super special here, but at least very educational for young flight mechanics scientists! *** Caution: I didn't scale the elevator rips in the STL file. Do it yourself - scale them by 2/3 (67%) in the slicer or they won't fit.***
